Rebel News' documentary on the government cull of the Universal Ostrich Farms flock is heading to home screens, and the Toronto audience that saw it first says every Canadian should watch it.

Drea Humphrey, who made the film, spoke with viewers as they left the Toronto screening of Culling The Cure: The Aftermath of Canada’s Ostrich Slaughter. The documentary is now available to RebelNews+ subscribers.

CULLING THE CURE

The Aftermath of Canada's Ostrich Slaughter

Culling The Cure raises serious questions about how governments use “animal health” policies, how dissent is handled when citizens push back, and whether scientific opportunity was sacrificed in the name of bureaucratic control.

One attendee had a message for the RCMP officers sent to enforce the cull. “Our government decided to abuse the entity that is the RCMP and use you to do its disgusting dirty work,” he said. “Please stop.”

Another drew a broader lesson. “It was quite alarming that if they could do this to ostriches, imagine what they could potentially do with people.”

Several viewers were visibly emotional. “Very sad. Made me cry,” one woman said, pausing to collect herself. “Sorry, still makes me cry.” Drea told her she was in good company: “I cry every time I see it too, even though I made it.”

One man said he almost stayed home because he knew how heavy the subject would be, but came “for that family.” He pointed to a scene in which a government official pressed the farm to fill out a form it would not qualify for, then told them to comply. “I think it became an ego battle,” he said, “and they were worried about their image being compromised.”

“Pay attention to what the politicians are doing. Pay attention to what the bureaucracy is doing,” another viewer urged. “Please don't let government overreach ruin this country.”

“Every Canadian needs to see this,” said another, congratulating the production team. “Huge impact when you watch it.”

One woman said the film showed audiences “what really happened,” calling it an important message about a government “willing to crush and destroy a family farm.”
