The federal department responsible for Canada’s chief science advisor declined to give Parliament an itemized account of Mona Nemer’s government-funded international travel since 2018, saying the information is not tracked in one central database.

Conservative MP Michael Guglielmin asked for the dates, destinations and purposes of Nemer’s trips, along with airfare, hotel costs and other expenses. In its response to written question Q-1392, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada said assembling the records could produce “incomplete and misleading information.” It directed readers to the federal government’s travel-disclosure portal instead of providing the requested list and total.

That does not mean Nemer’s travel costs are all secret. Individual claims are publicly searchable. One disclosure records $1,411.03 for a January 2026 trip to Washington, D.C. 

But the department left MPs to piece together eight years of international travel claims themselves. Its answer provided no consolidated cost, no complete itinerary and no itemized accounting in response to Guglielmin’s question.
