Liberal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino is under fire for repeatedly lying that police asked the federal government to invoke the Emergencies Act in February.

According to CTV News, in April, Mendicino told the committee that following the Freedom Convoy that took place in Ottawa this past winter, "the government was in regular consultation with law enforcement" and that the "advice he received was to invoke the Emergencies Act."

Former Ottawa police chief Peter Sloly, according to True North, debunked Mendicino's claims when he was asked by a Conservative MP in a Commons house affairs committee hearing that he "did not make that request, and [he is] not aware of anybody else in the Ottawa Police Service who did."

Now, Conservative Party of Canada leadership frontrunner Pierre Poillievre is calling on Mendicino to resign for lying to Canadians about what led the Trudeau government to use this extreme measure to end a peaceful demonstration.
