'That's nuts': Ezra Levant rips 'out of control prosecutors' seeking multi-year prison sentence for Tamara Lich

Crown prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence for Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich after she was found guilty of mischief for her role in organizing the peaceful anti-mandate protests in 2022.

On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra recounted the anti-mandate Freedom Convoy protests of early 2022 and questioned why prosecutors are seeking a seven-year prison sentence for Tamara Lich.

Lich was previously convicted of mischief over her role as an organizer of the peaceful protests in Ottawa against COVID-19 public health orders and vaccine mandates that took place in late January and early February 2022.

Fellow convoy organizer Chris Barber is facing a possible eight-year prison term for his role in the demonstrations.

Ezra condemned the Crown prosecutors for seeking such severe sentences for non-violent individuals like Lich and Barber.

"That's nuts. That is not lawful. That is not precedent following. That is punitive. That's a vendetta. That's out of control prosecutors," he said.

Ottawa police previously noted that crime in the city's downtown core actually went down during the peaceful Freedom Convoy protests.

Ezra also questioned why the Canadian justice system is focusing on Lich and Barber when horrific acts of violence are being committed on a daily basis.

"We are in a country ... where a 14-year-old boy murders a woman at random, and I say that because although he hasn't been convicted yet, he went on a live stream and confessed it," he said. "Tamara Lich already did 49 days in prison without bail for mischief."

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre denounced the Crown's decision to seek multi-year prison sentences for Lich and Barber in a post on social media Monday afternoon.

Please help Tamara Lich fight back against this outrageous political prosecution!

The Democracy Fund, a registered Canadian charity, is continuing to crowdfund Tamara Lich’s legal defence and appeal following her sentence of 18 months of house arrest for her role in the 2022 Freedom Convoy protest.

Tamara has filed her appeal challenging the conviction. She is represented by her lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon.

Tamara — a mom and grandmother from Medicine Hat, Alberta — has already spent 49 days in jail awaiting trial and has faced a legal process spanning more than three years. She now lives under significant restrictions while the appeal proceeds.

If you believe peaceful political protest should not be criminalized, please chip in today to help cover Tamara’s ongoing legal costs.

This vendetta shows how corrupt the Liberals are. Murderers get less than what Lich and Barber are facing.

Yup. They’ll be thrown in jail for the maximum amount of time because they upset Dear Leader Trudeau.

Unfortunately, there are Canadians who think that they not only deserve it but will be getting off lightly.

This is about sending a message to Canadians. Unfortunately for Rebel News, they’re going to get it.
