Canada's history of racism (and the British history of slavery) breaks the BLM narrative

Do you think the Black Lives Matter protesters in Canada know our country’s history as one of the world’s leaders in abolishing slavery?

Do you think they know that the importation of slaves was banned in Canada back in 1793 — almost 250 years ago?

Canada was the destination of the “Underground Railroad” runaway slaves from the United Staes. The British Empire — of which Canada was a part — led a fifty-year naval war against slave-trading, seizing 1,600 slave ships and freeing those captive. The British Empire took out a massive loan — worth more than $200 billion in today’s dollars — to buy the freedom of every slave in the Empire.

There has been slavery on every continent in the world. There still is, throughout Africa and Asia. But it was the British Empire — and the United States through its terrible civil war — that freed millions of slave.

On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra looked at Britain's role in abolishing the slave trade and the history of John Simcoe, the lieutenant governor of Upper Canada who abolished slavery more than 200 years ago.

Simcoe helped make Canada the place to which black Americans fled when they escaped slavery. Ezra asks how long it will be until protestors tear down his statue too, just like protestors are defacing everything else white and male and old.

If you hear any leftist call Canada a “racist” society, forward this video to them, too.

Never, never, never let them tell you that Canada is racist. In fact, we’re one of the few countries in the world that isn’t.
