Jim and Belinda Karahalios have announced their intention to create a new provincial party in Ontario.

According to Elections Ontario, the name New Blue Party of Ontario was requested on September 18 by Jim Karahalios and reserved on October 8.

Cambridge MPP Belinda Karahalios was removed from the Ontario PC Party caucus in July after she voted against the controversial Bill 195 put forth by Premier Doug Ford.

The bill gave the Ontario government the ability to extend some of the power granted to it from the emergency measures act.

Jim Karahalios, the husband of Belinda, was previously disqualified from running in the Conservative party leadership race. Originally rejected in February, a court upheld Karahalios' right to run, but the Party still scrapped his attempt to be on the ticket.

The accusations centred an incident where Karahalios circulated a letter quoting Erin O'Toole's campaign chair, Walied Soliman, on the promotion of Sharia financing.

Jim Karahalios previously had run for President of the Ontario PC Party, coming in second to current party President, Brian Patterson in 2018. Jim disputed the results of that election claiming the Party colluded with his opponents and stuffed ballot boxes against him.

In 2017 Jim started the Axe the Carbon Tax campaign that he claims, "changed the political narrative in Canada by uniting conservative leaders against Justin Trudeau’s carbon tax." That same year, Jim had successfully won a lawsuit that was filed against him by disgraced former Ontario PC Party leader, Patrick Brown.

The Karahalios' are currently in the process of collecting the necessary 1,000 signatures to move on to the next stage of their party's registration process.
