Elizabeth May sponsors petition calling for U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra to be expelled from Canada
The Green Party leader is backing a House of Commons petition accusing the American ambassador of interfering in Canadian politics, including through alleged links to Alberta’s independence movement.
Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is sponsoring a parliamentary petition calling on the federal government to declare U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra persona non grata and request his removal from Canada.
Petition e-7531 was initiated by Leanne Walker of Calgary and opened for signatures on July 21. As of August 10, it had collected more than 28,600 validated signatures, including 3,189 from Alberta.
The petition accuses Hoekstra of making statements that undermine Canada-U.S. relations, including describing the 2025 Canadian election as “anti-American” and characterizing U.S. President Donald Trump’s “51st state” rhetoric as a “term of endearment.”
It also takes aim at Hoekstra over Alberta’s independence movement. The petition alleges the ambassador was linked to a Michigan-based voter identification app used by the Centurion Project, while Hoekstra has denied knowledge of its use. It further cites three meetings between the Alberta Prosperity Project and U.S. State Department officials between April 2025 and January 2026 as raising “serious questions” about American interference in Canadian unity.
The petition asks the Carney government to declare Hoekstra persona non grata, raise his alleged conduct with Washington under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and order a parliamentary committee investigation into U.S. diplomatic interference in Canadian affairs.
May, the Green MP for Saanich—Gulf Islands, is listed by the House of Commons as the petition's sponsoring MP. The petition remains open until November 18.

(I have to say, years ago I was an old fashioned environmentalist that wanted our world free of chemicals, pollution, etc and therefore I voted Green, but now its mostly about insane ideology) -
