Feds spend $34K polling Canadians on fears Canada could run out of fresh water
According to records obtained by Blacklock's Reporter, Forum Research surveyed 2,275 Canadians for the March study, which the government said would help "develop and refine water-focused policy."
The Privy Council spent $34,291 polling Canadians about whether the country could eventually run short of fresh water, despite Canada holding roughly 20% of the world's surface freshwater supply.
According to records obtained by Blacklock's Reporter, Forum Research surveyed 2,275 Canadians for the March study, which the government said would help "develop and refine water-focused policy."
Asked whether Canada would have enough fresh water to meet future needs, 34% said it would not, while 29% disagreed and 35% had no opinion.
Only 16% considered mandatory water restrictions in their community "very likely" within five years. Sixty-three per cent also considered a local drought unlikely or had no opinion.
Statistics Canada has previously estimated total water withdrawals amount to about one per cent of Canada's annual renewable freshwater supply, though availability varies considerably by region.
The polling follows similar Privy Council research examining Canadians' fears of future food shortages, despite Canada being a major food exporter.

I’m being sarcastic, but there are people who truly believe that “bad orange man” has designs on our rivers and lakes. That same nonsense made the rounds more than 50 years ago during the early days of PET.
