Frank Baylis has been embroiled in controversy over lucrative federal contracts awarded to his medical company during and after his time in office. Baylis Medical Company received a sole-sourced $237 million contract in 2020 to manufacture ventilators during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite most of the 10,000 devices going unused. Additionally, the company secured a $4 million preventive maintenance contract for the unused ventilators, raising questions about government spending and oversight. Reports have also surfaced of a $423,000 industry department research contract awarded to Baylis Medical just months after he left office in 2019. Critics have cited these incidents as examples of cronyism and questionable procurement practices under the Trudeau government. Despite his tenure as an MP lasting only one term, Baylis remains a polarizing figure in Canadian politics
