Iran is celebrating a Joe Biden victory in the US Presidential Election with the potential defeat of President Donald Trump, declaring that the US government no longer “controls what’s happening in the world.”
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani predicted that under a Biden administration, Washington would “surrender” to the Islamic republic and undo its sanctions over the country’s nuclear program.
In a speech on Friday, Rouhani said President Trump “ruthlessly increased sanctions” on Tehran, and essentially declared “economic war” while it struggled with the COVID pandemic.
“They [the U.S.] did not adhere to any principles: neither human-rights principles nor international law,” Rouhani said, according to Breitbart News. “At the same time, I am confident that the Iranian nation will eventually win. It does not matter what the outcome of the U.S. election is tonight or tomorrow, and whose power is in anyone’s hands.”
“There is no doubt that the future U.S. administration will succumb to the will of the Iranian people,” he stated.
“They have no choice but to surrender to the law, order and pressure of public opinion and to the patience and resistance of this great nation,” he concluded. According to Reuters, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif declared that a Biden ascension into the White House to be proof that the age of “Western hegemony had ended.”
Zarif, who made his statement at a conference in Venezuela, said, “Today, the United States and its allies can’t control what’s happening in the world. They’ve lost control.”
