Victoria’s Upper House is debating the future of Group Voting Tickets after the Free Palestine Party forced the Labor government to move to repeal the rigged voting system, amid the threat of it being used against them at the November election.
The bill passed the Lower House without objection, but the real fight is happening today in the Legislative Council.
Expect a fiery debate as crossbench MPs who have relied on the system fight for their political survival.
Then comes the vote.
If the bill passes, it will mark a historic change to Victoria’s electoral system after our Free Palestine Party threatened to turn the system against those who benefited from it.
This was always our ultimate goal, but we never imagined it would actually work. We thought we’d have to play their game and funnel the preferences of the useful idiots through the very system they created.
But if this passes, we won’t need to.
