Rebel News is in the Federal Court of Appeal fighting Mark Carney’s government over the unconstitutional QCJO journalism licence — a system that gives politicians the power to decide who is a journalist and who isn’t.

If we lose, the government will tighten its grip on Canadian media by boosting state-funded outlets like the CBC and throttling independent voices like ours.

Carney has unleashed a team of government lawyers backed by the unlimited resources of the Justice Department. We estimate they’ve spent more than a million dollars going after us over the past five years. On our side, we have just two civil liberties lawyers from a small firm — and unlike the CBC, we don’t get $1.5 billion in government subsidies. We have to pay our bills ourselves.
