Please help us keep Drea safe!
Asking a question should not put a journalist’s family in danger. In Canada, it does.
Rebel News reporter Drea Humphrey was one of the first journalists in the country to ask where the evidence was for the 215 unmarked graves claimed at Kamloops. Five years later, no excavation has confirmed a single body — and Drea is still asking.
For that, she has received an endless stream of hate, racial abuse and threats against her life and her children. Since our orange shirts launched, the death threats have not stopped. Her own family is more worried than she is.
We take every one of them seriously. Every threat is documented and reported, and we are pursuing legal action against the people sending them.
But that isn’t enough. Rebel News now spends tens of thousands of dollars keeping Drea safe. Licensed security guards accompany her whenever she reports in the field — at the Kamloops rally on the steps of the B.C. legislature, at the Charlie Kirk vigil in Vancouver where activists chanted that he was better off dead, and at her upcoming debate on the residential school “genocide” claim at a Calgary campus event. We have added protective measures for her home, her car, her travel and her online presence.
None of that is cheap. Unlike the CBC, we don’t get a dime from the government. We rely entirely on viewers like you.
If you believe a journalist should be able to ask a question without fearing for her children’s safety, please chip in $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can. Every dollar goes to keeping Drea protected so she can keep reporting.
