Toronto police have now stopped our Rebel News billboard truck three times in just six weeks.

The latest incident happened at Bathurst and Sheppard, in the heart of Toronto’s Jewish community. Our truck was displaying a sponsored ad from the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation showing the bail conditions imposed on pro-Hamas radicals who have been charged with crimes.

That’s it. The ad was displaying information from public records — including the words of police and the courts.

But Toronto police pulled over our truck and began investigating the display as supposed “hate propaganda.”

This isn’t an isolated incident anymore. It’s a pattern.

In July, police pulled over the truck while it was displaying a sponsored message defending women’s sports.

Then, outside a WNBA game in downtown Toronto, police swarmed the truck, ordered our driver Mark to turn off another women’s sports video and handed him two tickets totalling $1,230. That video featured female sports legends Serena Williams and Martina Navratilova explaining the biological differences between men and women in sports.

And now they’ve stopped us again.

Three police stops in six weeks.

It would be cheaper and easier for us to simply pay the tickets, park the truck and stop displaying messages that upset people.

We’re not going to do that.

If we give in, we’re accepting the idea that police officers can decide which lawful political messages are allowed to appear on a billboard in Toronto. We believe that would set a terrible precedent — not just for Rebel News, but for every Canadian who believes in freedom of speech and expression.

So we’re fighting back.

We’ve retained Toronto criminal lawyer Leora Shemesh to fight the tickets in court and defend our truck’s right to keep driving.

I’m told this legal fight will cost approximately $10,000.

And I want to be very clear about where your money is going: your donations will not be used to pay these fines. We’re fighting the tickets, not paying them. Your donation will help pay the lawyers who are challenging them.

I also promised our driver, Mark, that he would not personally be responsible for a dollar of this. He shouldn’t have to worry that doing his job means repeatedly being pulled over, questioned or threatened with fines.

Rebel News has crowdfunded lawyers for Canadians across the country — truckers, pastors, farmers and ordinary people who needed someone in their corner.

This time, it’s our own truck, our own driver and our own freedom of expression that we have to defend.

We’re going to keep the truck rolling. We’re going to keep displaying lawful messages. And we’re going to fight these tickets in court.
