HELP THE AMISH
Support their legal defence through The Democracy Fund
Help defend Ontario’s Amish families in court
A small, peaceful Amish community in Ontario was hit with hundreds of thousands of dollars in COVID fines because they didn’t comply with the government’s ArriveCAN app — an app they had no practical way to use, on smartphones they don’t own.
Many of these families say they didn’t even know they had been convicted until liens appeared on their farms.
Your donations are already making a difference. The Democracy Fund has identified 32 affected families, and 24 have now had their fines stayed or reduced to zero.
But the fight isn’t over.
Eight families were refused relief, and their appeal is now before the Ontario Court of Justice. One family alone still owes approximately $13,000 plus interest — a devastating amount for families who live modestly through farming and the sale of homemade goods.
Your donation will help fund their legal defence
The Democracy Fund is supporting these families as they challenge the remaining fines in court. Your contribution will help pay for the legal work required to continue that fight.
This donation is being made to The Democracy Fund, a registered Canadian charity. Eligible donations made through this page will receive an official charitable tax receipt from The Democracy Fund.
If you believe these families deserve a fair hearing and a strong legal defence, please make a donation today.
Every contribution helps give them the resources to keep fighting.
