Meet Toronto-area realtor Peter Ding. Peter has a childhood friend in China who owns a factory that produces medical safety supplies ranging from face masks to latex gloves — very hot commodities these days indeed.

On March 17, Peter reached out to the federal government to see if it would like to buy this stock. And the response? He was directed to visit a decrepit text-only website that didn’t even allow the uploading of images, videos and PDFs.

In the meantime, Peter sent numerous emails, asking: Is the government of Canada interested in these much-needed supplies, or not?

And the response?

Silence.

Now the clock is ticking.

Peter says his friend can only reserve this stock until Wednesday. After that, he’ll sell the stuff to any of the other 190+ countries looking to purchase these potentially life-saving supplies.
