We have an update regarding Brampton, Ont.-based LD Trans Line Ltd.

As we reported earlier this month, LD Trans Line was recently stripped of its Ontario operating licence. LD’s sins were many, including countless safety violations and falsifying the number of hours its drivers were on the road.

Indeed, drivers at LD were notorious for cooking the books. And it should be noted that one of the company’s drivers caused a fatal 15 vehicle pileup back in January 2025.

In fact, LD’s safety record was so egregious that the Registrar of Vehicles called the trucking company “the worst of the worst.”

Now that’s harsh given what one sees on the streets of Brampton these days!

So it was that the company was decertified. That’s the good news. The bad news: there are so many other unsafe trucking firms still operating in the region. And there is nothing in place to prevent LD’s drivers from hooking up with other fly-by-night trucking companies.

Of note, the Ontario Trucking Association calls many of these dodgy companies “chameleon carriers.” A chameleon carrier is a commercial trucking company that shuts down after receiving safety violations, financial penalties, and/or out-of-service orders. Then the company illegally reopens under a new name and it is business as usual.

However, we were able to track down LD’s owner, Mandeep Singh. Until recently, Singh also operated another defunct trucking company based in Nova Scotia.

Singh told us that he is out of the trucking business – as in forever. And he will soon be out of the country as well. Singh says he plans to return to India. And sure enough, his Brampton home – which, by the way, is listed as the head office of LD Trans Line – is currently up for sale.

However, despite LD’s ghastly safety record and despite industry officials lambasting LD Trans Line as “the worst of the worst”, Singh feels the ruling to decertify his company was unfair. Not that it matters anymore, really…

Still, at the end of the day, the LD Trans Line story makes for a bittersweet victory. Yes, the company has been decertified. Yes, Singh says he has no plans to resurrect the firm under a different name. But how many other inept trucking companies have rigs criss-crossing the highways and byways of our dominion, causing unspeakable carnage in the process?

The trucking industry is broken. And it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Too bad there seems to be a lack of political will to do so.
