Defend Transparency and Free Expression in North Huron!

North Huron council has passed a by-law banning residents from audio and video recording council meetings — and has shut down public Q&A — directly limiting how citizens can question officials and document what happens in their own town hall.

At a January 2026 meeting, police were called and two peaceful residents were removed and later banned from attending meetings after recording proceedings on their phones. Constitutional lawyers have warned the municipality that these actions likely violate Charter protections for freedom of expression and press.

Public meetings belong to the public — not to politicians who want less scrutiny.

We call on North Huron council to:

  • Repeal the recording ban

  • Restore public questioning at meetings

  • Lift attendance bans on residents

  • Respect Charter freedoms and open government

Sign the petition and demand accountable, transparent local government!
