Whitby Town Councillor Victoria Bozinovski,
You recently stated that opposing uncontrolled, mass immigration makes someone “xenophobic, racist garbage,” a remark that is deeply concerning given that many Canadians are raising legitimate concerns about issues such as record youth unemployment, an ongoing housing crisis, and increasing strain on communities and public services.
These are not fringe views, and polling shows that a majority of Canadians support reducing immigration levels, so your comments appear to dismiss and insult many of the very constituents you were elected to represent — do you believe that the majority of Canadians who hold these views are “xenophobic, racist garbage”?
Elected officials have a responsibility to engage respectfully with the public even in disagreement, and your comments fall short of that standard, which is why we, the undersigned, call on you to issue a full public apology, acknowledge the legitimacy of differing views on immigration policy, and resign from your position if you are unwilling to represent all constituents respectfully!
