Stormtrooper arrested: Armed police pin cosplayer to ground, threaten onlookers on Star Wars Day

Police officers in Lethbridge, Alberta held a woman dressed a Star Wars Stormtrooper at gunpoint before detaining her. A video of the incident shows the woman sobbing on the ground after the police surrounded her.

The woman was left with a bloodied nose after the incident, and it is unclear if she sustained any other injuries, according to David Opinko with Lethbridge News Now.

The Lethbridge woman was in costume as part of a promotional event outside her workplace, to mark the well-memed “May The 4th Be With You” Day, which celebrates all things Star Wars.

According to reports, the police were responding to calls saying there was a firearm being brandished in the area (something that isn't necessarily illegal in Canada).

Legalities aside, the woman wearing the iconic costume was clearly not a threat to anyone, and it is unclear why the police responded with drawn weapons. An internal investigation is being conducted by the police, and they will release it after it has been “completed and reviewed.”
