Trump amplifies call for U.S. refuge for Canadian Jews fleeing antisemitism
Thousands of Canadian Jews have reportedly expressed interest in relocating to the United States amid escalating antisemitic violence and persecution.
U.S. President Donald Trump has drawn attention to a proposal calling for a special legal pathway for Canadian Jews seeking to leave the country amid rising antisemitism, sharing a report about the initiative on his Truth Social account.
The proposal, backed by Christian and Jewish advocates, calls on the Trump administration to consider expedited legal pathways for Jewish Canadians and their immediate families who fear antisemitic persecution or violence.
More than 2,000 Canadian Jews have reportedly expressed interest in relocating to the United States.
Trump’s decision to share the proposal does not mean his administration has adopted it. There is currently no indication the White House has created or approved a special immigration or asylum program for Canadian Jews.

However, the president’s intervention brings new attention to growing concerns about antisemitism in Canada.
Statistics Canada recorded 788 police-reported hate crimes targeting Jews in 2025, according to figures cited by the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs.
Despite comprising approximately one percent of Canada’s population, Jews were the victims of 71 percent of reported religion-motivated hate crimes. CIJA calculated that a Jewish Canadian was approximately 22 times more likely to be targeted by a hate crime than another Canadian.
Violent incidents have continued into 2026.
B’nai Brith Canada reported in July that it had documented 27 violent antisemitic incidents since the beginning of the year, more than double the 10 recorded during all of 2025.
The proposal being promoted by Trump is reportedly being led by the National Association of Christian Lawmakers alongside other Christian and Jewish advocates.

The United States, however, is confronting its own surge in antisemitism.
The Anti-Defamation League recorded 6,274 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. in 2025, including a record 203 physical assaults. FBI statistics recorded 1,528 anti-Jewish hate crime incidents, representing roughly 63 percent of all religion-based hate crimes reported nationwide.
Trump has not promised Canadian Jews refugee status or announced a new immigration program.
But with thousands reportedly interested in leaving Canada, the U.S. president has now put the proposal before a much larger audience.
