Half a million Canadians were laid off in the past week. How much worse will it get?

So far, 500,000 Canadians have lost their jobs, been laid off, because of the coronavirus quarantine and government-ordered shut-downs in the country.

How many people will not be able to make a mortgage payment or a rent payment, or even pay for groceries or gas?

And it’s just getting stricter. Ontario’s Doug Ford literally ordered every non-essential business in the province to close. That doesn’t include groceries. Does that include us?

I’ll shut down when the CBC propaganda station shuts down, how about that?

What’s odd, is that despite the largest, and most sudden jump in unemployment in Canadian history — far larger than the day after the 1929 stock market crash, for example — Trudeau officially announces he’s bringing in more foreigners. As cheap labour.

This was announced two days ago:

To safeguard the continuity of trade, commerce, health and food security for all Canadians, temporary foreign workers in agriculture, agri-food, seafood processing and other key industries will be allowed to travel to Canada under exemptions being put in place to the air travel restrictions that took effect on March 18.

I agree — let’s make sure Canada has enough food. But half a million Canadians are newly out of work. And foreign workers can still be shipped in? Why, so corporations can save an extra couple of dollars an hour?

Yes, that’s exactly why:

The Government of Canada is also increasing the maximum allowable employment duration for workers in the low-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program from 1 to 2 years. This will improve flexibility and reduce the administrative burden for employers, including those in food processing.

Meanwhile, talk of imposing martial law is ramping up, from Patty Hajdu, Trudeau himself, the CBC. I haven’t seen much out of the official opposition either.

Giving Trudeau the power to take away our civil liberties? Sorry, no thanks.

Who will report any of this?

Every day, Canada’s journalists gather at the steps of Trudeau’s house and act as stenographers and cheerleaders — literally asking him to take away freedoms.

I see that Ontario Premier Doug Ford has declared that any business not an essential service is being shut down. I wonder if that includes media.

Because the CBC is pure propaganda. In fact, they have shut down all of their local newscasts, to ensure maximum narrative discipline.

Only Liberals like Rosemary Barton will speak in all news markets in Canada.

And they'll threaten your civil liberties. Oh — but the CBC will still keep the money they’re given for all those local newscasts.

Yeah, I think we’re an essential service.

Point me to another news outlet that isn’t cheering for your arrest, while turning a blind eye to the obvious problems with Trudeau’s lock-em-all-up strategy.

NEXT: Our own David Menzies has been doing real journalism at Roxham Road, the illegal border crossing that Trudeau only recently shut down. He joins me tonight with the latest update on the situation.

FINALLY: Your letters to me.
