We're in!

Canada’s National Firearms Association is joining the Supreme Court challenge brought by the Canadian Coalition for Firearms Rights against the Liberal government’s Orders in Council banning hundreds of thousands of firearms.

The NFA will participate as an Intervenor — bringing a distinct legal argument to the Supreme Court on behalf of Canadian firearms owners.

And we believe this is an important fight.

The question is simple: Are laws in Canada made through legislation passed by Parliament — or can a government use an Order in Council to effectively create sweeping laws without going through Parliament?

The Liberal government used Orders in Council to target hundreds of thousands of firearms and the lawfully owned property of Canadians.

Were they acting within their authority?

The Supreme Court will hear the case in November 2026, with a decision expected shortly afterward.

At first, we weren’t sure the Court would accept the NFA as an Intervenor. To participate, an organization must bring an argument that is different and distinct from that of the principal litigant.

With the help of Vancouver civil rights lawyer Jason Gratl, we believe we have found that argument.

Jason has extensive experience in cases involving civil liberties, has argued before the Supreme Court of Canada and has served as head of the B.C. Civil Liberties Union. We believe he is the right lawyer for this fight.

But taking a case all the way to the Supreme Court requires significant resources.

The government has its lawyers. But we have you.
