A Ukrainian asylum seeker who repeatedly stole from Home Depot while already subject to court orders has received a conditional discharge and probation.

Levan Meskhia, 40, pleaded guilty to theft under $5,000 and breaching court orders stemming from a Feb. 11, 2026 incident, according to the Huntsville Doppler.

Meskhia was caught stealing electronics from a Home Depot while already on bail for an earlier theft from the same store. He was also under court orders connected to thefts at two other Home Depot locations and was prohibited from entering the retailer.

He was also driving with a suspended licence when he was caught.

The court heard that Meskhia came to Canada from Ukraine while his family remained overseas. He reportedly hopes to bring them to Canada.

The judge, whose name was not included in the original report, expressed concern about Meskhia’s repeated criminal conduct.

“I understand he hopes to bring his family over,” the judge said, “but that is if he can find a way to stop committing crimes in Canada.”

Despite describing the proposed sentence as “very low,” the judge accepted a conditional discharge accompanied by 12 months of probation.

Meskhia is prohibited from entering every Home Depot location in Ontario for one year.

The judge also warned him that continued criminal activity could jeopardize his ability to remain in Canada.

“Mr. Meskhia, if you keep it up, we’re going to kick you out of this country,” the judge said.
