Manitoba check-up: Handgun bans in Winnipeg and fake hate crimes
A Winnipeg city Councillor name Sherri Rollins is targeting Canada’s lawful firearms community.
She wants a total handgun ban in Winnipeg, a idea not ruled out by Progressive Conservative Premier Brian Pallister who said in November that he won't “make policy on the fly,” but did not rule out allowing Manitoba municipalities to ban handguns, should they choose to do so.
Rollins' idea was immediately swatted down by Winnipeg Police Service spokesperson Constable Rob Carver. “It won't make any difference whatsoever,” said Carver. “When we seize handguns, the handguns are always, almost 100 per cent, in the possession of people who have no legal right to possess them. They're almost always stolen or illegally obtained.”
However the plan is supported by Mayor Brian Bowman who wants to see more action from the Feds on a national handgun ban.
What the heck is going on in Winnipeg? It sounds like Calgary, or, even worse, Toronto!
Joining me tonight to talk about all this, plus a spate of fake anti-Semitic hate crimes, a pro-Iran rally at the US consulate in Manitoba and so much more is independent Winnipeg journalist, Marty Gold from TheJ.ca.
