Twitter user, London & UK Crime (@CrimeLdn) posted a 19-second video to the social media site Sunday morning showing Tommy Robinson being arrested at Speaker’s Corner, at the Northeast Corner of London’s Hyde Park.
The video shows approximately a dozen uniformed police officers escorting away a handcuffed Robinson as media and bystanders recorded the arrest. One person can be heard shouting “F-ck your mum, Tommy” as Robinson is walked to a police van.
A video posted by Politicalite shows the moment police took Robinson into custody. Robinson yells,"I haven’t done anything wrong!" He also tells officers "you’re breaking my f***ing arm" as they handcuff him.
According to news outlet Metro.uk, a Metropolitan Police spokesman has stated, "Officers were policing an assembly at speakers corner, Hyde Park on Sunday, 1 November. At 2.44pm a man aged in his 30’s was arrested under the coronavirus regulations for holding or being involved in the holding of the event. He has been taken to police custody."
Supporters suggested the initial gathering was about showing support for another activist, Hatun Tash, who claims to have been attacked at Speaker’s Corner after showing an image of the prophet Muhammad, an act considered deeply offensive to Muslims.
Speaker’s Corner is an area where open-air public speaking, debate, and discussion are allowed.
Saturday, London police took a hands-off approach to protestors in front of the French embassy in London to march in opposition to the hardline approach French President Macron is taking in response to a series of Islamist inspired terror attacks. Videos of that march show London police standing back as an unmasked mob chanted “shame on you” in front of the Louis Vuitton store.
Three Catholic churchgoers were killed in an attack Thursday in Nice, France, with one parishioner “virtually beheaded.” Two weeks ago, school teacher, Samuel Paty, was also beheaded in Paris after showing cartoons of the prophet Mohammed in civics class. A Greek Orthodox priest was shot and wounded in Lyon on Saturday. The motive for that attack is unknown.
