Petition to Carleton University: Fire Hassan Diab Now!

5,310 signatures
Goal: 1,000 signatures

We, the undersigned, call on Carleton University to immediately:

  1. Terminate Hassan Diab’s employment.

  2. Apologize to the Jewish community and all victims of terrorism for this shocking lapse in judgment.

  3. Reassess their hiring practices to ensure no convicted terrorists are employed in the future.

This is not about academic freedom — this is about justice, accountability, and standing against antisemitism in all its forms.

Will you sign?

Hassan Diab, a man convicted of bombing a synagogue, is teaching at Carleton University.

This is not just an outrage — it’s a stain on the integrity of our academic institutions. Carleton University, one of Canada's so-called champions of inclusivity and safety, has hired a man convicted in France for a terrorist attack on a synagogue that killed four innocent people and injured dozens more.

This was no ordinary crime. The bombing in 1980 was the first major jihadist terrorist attack in France. The timing was deliberate: the bomb was set to explode just as Friday night synagogue services ended, aiming for maximum devastation. Thankfully, the service ran late, sparing hundreds. But four lives were tragically lost, and countless others were forever scarred.

And now, the man convicted of orchestrating that attack, Hassan Diab, is teaching at Carleton University.

Is this Carleton’s Idea of “Social Justice in Action”?

Dr. Hassan Diab teaches a course in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, ironically titled "Social Justice in Action." But this course isn’t about scholarship — it’s a platform for Diab to argue against his extradition to France. His official course materials even include his own self-serving website, JusticeForHassanDiab.org.

Let’s be clear: Hassan Diab is not seeking justice — he’s avoiding it. Convicted in absentia by a French court, Diab has resisted extradition to face the evidence and appeal his conviction. Instead, he hides behind his teaching position at Carleton, tarnishing the university’s reputation and mocking the values it claims to uphold.

Carleton University’s Hypocrisy

Carleton prides itself on creating a “safe” environment for students, shielding them from so-called “microaggressions.” Yet, this same institution employs a man convicted of murdering Jews in a terrorist attack.

Where is the safety for Jewish students, staff, and donors? Where is the justice for the victims of this horrific crime?

By allowing Diab to teach, Carleton University sends a dangerous message: that justice and accountability can be ignored if they conflict with a narrative of victimhood.
