Protesters demand biological males be removed from women's prisons

“No chicks with dicks!” Protesters gather outside a female prison in Kitchener demanding that male inmates must do their time elsewhere.

Last Saturday, members of CAWSBAR (Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights), gathered to protest outside the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ont.

The reason: as its name implies, Grand Valley is a prison for females. Yet, shockingly, in the name of “trans rights”, male prisoners are also incarcerated here.

Not surprisingly, this has created a dangerous environment behind the walls of Grand Valley given that – shockers! – the lion’s share of the men incarcerated here are doing time for sexual assault offences. In this sense, Grand Valley must be a utopia for these vile predators.

But get this: even though the Federal Liberals admit female prisoners are being sexually assaulted here, those harms STILL don't violate the Charter rights of the women involved.

Their DEI mandate was so insane, the government won’t even use the word “female” in its arguments in case that word “mischaracterizes” so-called “transwomen” (male) inmates. Instead, the government refers to real women as “cisgender.” Unbelievable.

Of note, there was actually a tiny counterprotest staged by four unhinged (is there any other kind?) members of Team Transgender. They arrived to the demonstration in a SUV brandishing the flag of “Palestine”. This is why we support the establishment of another MAGA movement: Make Asylums Great Again.

Par for the course, these confused people were unable to explain their viewpoint in terms of why misogyny behind bars is a good thing. Rather, like petulant children having temper tantrums, they spent the afternoon interfering with the protest and with Rebel News practicing journalism. It seemed that their goal was to get assaulted; nobody took the bait. But really, what a bunch of kooks.

Protests are one thing, but perhaps a legal victory against this “transanity” is really what’s needed.

In this sense, on April 7, 2025, lawyers funded by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms filed a constitutional challenge in the Federal Court on behalf of Canadian Women’s Sex-Based Rights (CAWSBAR).

The lawsuit is challenging Commissioner’s Directive 100 (which allows men to reside in female prisons) and the Justice Centre asked the court to declare it to be of no force or effect.

CAWSBAR argues that forcing female inmates to share correctional facilities with trans-identifying male inmates exposes women to physical and psychological harm, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, intimidation, stalking, beatings, and grooming.

The lawsuit also argues that many federally incarcerated women have previously experienced physical or sexual abuse by men before entering prison. It claimed that housing biological males alongside female inmates, including during group therapy sessions, undermines rehabilitation and caused psychological distress, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and fear.

The claim further alleges that many women were reluctant to complain because they feared institutional repercussions or negative effects on future parole decisions.

The Justice Centre argues that Correctional Service Canada’s policy violates sections 7, 12, and 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms by infringing female inmates’ rights to life, liberty and security of the person, freedom from cruel and unusual treatment, and equality under the law.

The claim also relies on section 28 of the Charter, which guarantees that the rights and freedoms set out in the Charter are guaranteed equally to male and female persons.

CAWSBAR supported its claim with evidence from former inmate and board member Heather Mason, who describes the practical effects of the policy and explained why many incarcerated women could not safely bring constitutional challenges themselves.

Says constitutional lawyer Chris Fleury: “No woman should be at risk of abuse or violence at the hands of a man while they are serving a sentence in a federal institution.”

The Federal Court has allowed the constitutional challenge to proceed, even though the federal government asked the Court to strike the claim, arguing that it disclosed no reasonable cause of action. It also opposed CAWSBAR’s request for public interest standing. On May 14, 2026, the Federal Court rejected both arguments.

Meanwhile, the federal government has filed a formal court defence arguing it did nothing wrong by housing biological male inmates who identify as women inside Canada's women's prisons — and it's doing so while refusing to even use the word "female" in its legal arguments.

It should be noted that the so-called “transwomen” prison policy was changed overnight after former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked a question regarding transgender prisoners during a town hall in Kingston, Ont. in January, 2017. The Prime Minister responded that “yes” he would address this issue despite saying he had never “thought” of it before.

The justification for this change is Bill C-16 which amended the Canadian Human Rights Act making gender identity and expression a prohibited ground for discrimination. And if that means real women get assaulted behind bars, then so be it…

Interestingly, the trans prisoner issue is not a matter of what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Which is to say, if a female prisoner identifies as a “transman” and wants to serve her time at a male penitentiary, this is NOT allowed. Why? Safety. In other words, the guards don’t want to be on 24/7 gang rape duty.

But when it comes to the safety of female inmates at the hands of gender-bending male grifters, in the name of “inclusion”, the federal Liberals don’t care. Despicable.

Bottom line: if transgender prisoners must be “accommodated”, then so be it. Which is to say, how about the federal government establishes a standalone transgender penitentiary? That way, if one is a “transwoman” or a “transman” or even a “transcat”, hey, come one, come all to a secure building where these confused reprobates can do their time while not being violent to other inmates and guards.
