Prime Minister Mark Carney's office is facing scrutiny after it was revealed that a newly created position in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was handed to a staffer with a long history of work for Democratic Party campaigns in the United States.

According to a report from the Niagara Independent, the role — described as unprecedented in Canadian government — went to Maia Johnson, while the staffer previously doing similar work was moved into the Senate as a patronage appointment.

Johnson previously served as director of scheduling for Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign against Donald Trump, and later worked on the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She also worked for Hawkfish, a political data and strategy firm tied to former New York City mayor and Democrat presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg.

Rebel News' Lise Merle slammed the appointment during Tuesday's live stream. "This is a person who is so laden with conflicts of interest across the border, that no sane or rational Canadian could look at her CV and think, 'yeah, this is a good fit to represent Canadians,'" she said.

"This is nearly overt political posturing to sort of interfere in the US midterms. I can't see any world where President Trump would be OK with this," Lise continued.

Separately, Liberal MP Anthony Housefather was seen in Florida helping Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz campaign for Congress, even as Liberals publicly claim to reject American-style politics.

Rebel News' Sheila Gunn Reid noted how the optics are striking during Tuesday's live stream. Liberal officials are engaging in the very American-style politicking they claim to oppose, this time seemingly working from inside the PMO and on U.S. soil to weaken the Republican control of Congress.

The revelations come as Canada's counter-tariffs target key swing states, including Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Texas and Maine, all considered battlegrounds in the upcoming midterm elections.
