Tonight, on The Ezra Levant Show, a Chinese Canadian MP said he was too injured to continue working, but he's actually been gallivanting across China. What on earth is going on?
Shaun Chen, a Liberal backbencher representing a riding in the Greater Toronto Area, announced his resignation, citing a car accident that left him physically unable to continue. The state broadcaster dutifully repeated the line.
But police sources are telling a very different story — that the crash was a minor fender bender, so gentle that both drivers simply drove away. No ambulance was called, nor was a police report filed, and Chen was present to vote in the House of Commons the very next day.
Chen was hardly a fixture in Parliament to begin with. According to records, Chen rose to speak in the House exactly once in an entire calendar year. Sitting MPs from other parties have said online that they'd never heard of him until now, let alone seen him in Ottawa.
So where was he? Well, independent journalist Andy Lee has uncovered a trove of videos and images, circulating on WeChat — the Chinese "super app" that combines the functions of Twitter, Amazon and TikTok — showing Chen living it up inside the People's Republic of China.

Every MP's location and travel is tracked by their party whip, whose entire job is knowing exactly where caucus members are in case of a vote. Which raises the obvious question: how did the Liberal whip not know what Chen was doing, and why did nobody stop it?
Now, the Liberal Party is scrambling to contain the story. Journalist Glen McGregor has been deployed to run counter-journalism against Andy Lee, rather than hold power to account. Toronto Sun columnist Joe Warmington's piece on the affair briefly hit number one on the paper's site, before it was pulled without explanation.
