Free luxury trips for Trudeau's hand-picked journalists to Davos
Did you know that in the fiscal year 2016 - 2017 the Canadian public paid $125,000 to cover the cost of journalists who follow around the Prime Minister?
We discovered the amount in an exclusive access to information document related to Justin Trudeau's cancelled Davos trip in 2017.
Bureaucrats were requesting the Privy Council Office transfer funds totaling $125,000 to cover media travel.
“This is to request your assistance in transferring an advance of funds to cover the cost of the media who accompany the Prime Minister when travelling abroad. Based on upcoming and planned visits by the Prime Minister, we estimate these expenditures should be approximately $125,000 for the fiscal year 2016 - 2017.”
Another email reveals the 2016-2017 amount is a $23,000 increase from the prior fiscal year.
What this means is on top of CBC's over 1 billion dollar per year annual subsidy, and on top of the 600 million dollar media bailout, the Canadian taxpayer is also covering the costs for select journalists to follow Trudeau around the globe.
