On November 6, 2025, federal marksmen opened fire on Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, British Columbia. By the time the Canadian Food Inspection Agency was finished, roughly 330 ostriches were dead.
Rebel News was there.
Our B.C. Bureau Chief, Drea Humphrey, spent weeks embedded at the farm through the vigils, arrests, roadblocks and, finally, the gunfire. Now Rebel News is bringing that extraordinary footage together in Culling the Cure, our feature documentary about the farmers, the birds and the government system behind Canada's mass-cull policy.
On September 18, we're premiering the film for the first time anywhere in the world — in the B.C. Interior, where this story happened.
What you'll see
Culling the Cure goes far beyond the headlines surrounding the Edgewood ostrich slaughter. The film investigates why millions of animals can be destroyed under Canada's "stamping out" policy, the scientific questions surrounding the flock, the farmers' fight through the courts, and what happened when Ottawa ultimately moved in to enforce the kill order.
You'll see exclusive footage gathered on the ground at the farm, along with the voices of the farmers, supporters, scientists and officials at the centre of the story.
If you followed our Save the Ostriches coverage, this is the film that months of reporting were building toward. If you're new to the story, this is your chance to see it from the beginning.
Plus: Live Q&A with Drea Humphrey
The story doesn't end when the credits roll.
Drea Humphrey will join us live after the screening for an audience Q&A. Drea spent weeks reporting from inside the farm gates and was there as the confrontation reached its final hours. You'll have the chance to ask her about what happened behind the scenes, what the cameras couldn't capture, and what the farmers are facing now.
