Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto's position has become untenable. The Federal Court found that Pesutto had defamed Moira Deeming by falsely accusing her of being a Nazi sympathiser, causing significant damage to his credibility within the Liberal Party.
Despite the court's ruling and increasing calls for his resignation from within his own party, Pesutto has insisted he will remain in his leadership role, claiming the decision will not affect his ability to lead. However, his refusal to step down after such a significant legal defeat undermines the trust and integrity required of a political leader.
It is time for John Pesutto to put the interests of Victorians and the integrity of the Victorian Opposition first. We call on him to resign immediately and allow fresh leadership to rebuild the party's credibility.
