Premier Smith taking on teachers' union in fight for parental rights

The Buffalo Roundtable unanimously backed Alberta's efforts to remove ideologies from classrooms as new legislation aims to shift education away from divisive political issues.

An effort to depoliticize classrooms is underway in Alberta following Premier Danielle Smith's government tabling Bill 25. The proposed legislation aims to remove political symbols from schools and shift the focus back to a neutral, respectful learning environment for students.

On this week's Buffalo Roundtable livestream, where our Rebel News hosts are joined by guests for a discussion on the top issues facing Western Canada, the panel gave unanimous backing to Premier Smith's new bill.

“This just builds on a whole host of things that Danielle Smith is doing to put parents back in control of education,” said host Sheila Gunn Reid. “These people have my kids for seven hours a day, and I don't need them infecting them with their outlandish progressive ideology.”

“We need this in Saskatchewan,” agreed fellow Rebel host Lise Merle. Alberta's premier has “done more for the young people of Alberta with this move than can be calculable in this lifetime,” she said, suggesting in the next decade the province's students would be “the best performing students on earth because their crazy teachers were prohibited from doing crazy things in the classroom.”

Politicians across Canada have been too afraid to challenge teachers' unions, asserted Western Standard columnist Cory Morgan. Instead of backing down, Smith is “taking the battle to them” and “not just saying 'I'm not going to let you push me around'” and is taking action to clean up the mess.

“When teachers cross the line, the video's going to come out,” he continued, warning educators their “ideological crap” was no longer welcome.

Premier Smith “has the backing of the province to do this,” remarked political commentator Marty Belanger. “These are almost word-for-word issues the [United Conservative Party] membership voted on.” Politicized classrooms were causing the province to “lose future battles” by failing to adequately educate students, he said.

“It's important to deal with the next generation and stop this crazy indoctrination of our kids.”

We need a leader in other provinces to copy Danielle Smith. The teachers’ union must be busted.
