Dear Prime Minister Carney and Premier Eby,
We demand that you stop using public money to bailout Vancouver condo developers and investors from the consequences of their own overpriced projects.
Taxpayers did not inflate this market, and we should not be forced to bail it out. If developers cannot sell these condos at the prices they are demanding, then prices should fall — not be propped up by governments protecting insiders while ordinary families are locked out.
Enough backroom bailouts!
Disclose how much taxpayer money is involved, reveal who stands to benefit, and stop this condo bailout now.
Stop the Condo Bailout
Prime Minister Mark Carney is trying to use your tax dollars to prop up Vancouver’s struggling condo market — and we need your help to stop him.
For more than two decades, Vancouver has ranked among the least affordable housing markets in the world. Families and young adults have watched the dream of home ownership drift further and further out of reach as housing prices soared beyond what many ordinary British Columbians could afford.
Now, just as the market is finally showing signs of correcting itself — with new condo sales weakening in some of Vancouver’s prime locations — Prime Minister Mark Carney and B.C. Premier David Eby have joined forces to bail out the developers and investors behind these sky-high-priced units.
Instead of allowing market pressure to bring prices down and give ordinary buyers the bargaining power they have been waiting years to see, governments are stepping in to shield developers and investors from the consequences of their own pricing decisions.
Canadians deserve answers.
How much taxpayer money will be spent?
Which developers and investors will benefit?
Why was this decision announced while Parliament and the B.C. Legislature were recessed for the summer?
And if developers cannot sell these condos at the prices they are asking, why should taxpayers be forced to buy them instead?
There is little time left to stop this. Canadians need answers — but we also need action.
