Trans rights rally planned in Saskatchewan to protest Parents' Bill of Rights

The province's Parents' Bill of Rights is continuing to draw the ire of far-left activists.

Activists are planning a rally at Saskatoon City Hall on October 10 calling for the repeal of Saskatchewan's Bill 137, the Parents' Bill of Rights.

A poster promoting the event reads "Trans Rights Rally. Repeal Bill 137. Protect Trans Kids." It shows a male lion with a cub tucked beneath its jaw.

The poster also carries the logo of the Red Bear Party. The logo includes the acronym "ACAB," which is commonly understood to mean "All Cops Are Bastards."

The rally falls on World Mental Health Day. The International Day of the Girl follows on October 11.

Bill 137 passed in the Saskatchewan legislature in October 2023. Among its provisions, it requires parental consent before students under 16 can use a different name or pronouns at school. It also affirms parents' role in decisions about their children's education, including sexual health education.

The Saskatchewan government invoked the notwithstanding clause to shield the law from being struck down under certain sections of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Premier Scott Moe's government argued that parents have a right to be informed about significant matters affecting their children at school.

Male trans activists along with the federally-funded UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity and EGALE launched a legal challenge against the policy, and that case has continued through the courts despite the Notwithstanding clause.

Alberta has also invoked the notwithstanding clause to protect its own legislation on gender policy for minors, including rules on parental notification in schools.

Supporters of the laws say they keep families involved in major decisions affecting children.

Let's watch the MSM for how many people show up for this on October 10th.
