Carney commits Canada to 100-year partnership with Ukraine

Carney says Canada will help rebuild Ukraine for the century ahead as billions in support have already been committed.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has committed Canada to a 100-year partnership with Ukraine, including long-term cooperation on defence, security, trade, reconstruction, energy, critical minerals and technology.

Carney made the announcement alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the two countries had signed a declaration looking beyond the current war and toward “the century ahead.”

The commitment comes as Canada has already provided more than $22 billion in support for Ukraine, according to figures cited during the segment, with another $300 million recently pledged.

The scale and duration of the commitment raised questions about how future generations of Canadians will be expected to support Ukraine’s reconstruction.

Carney also referenced potential cooperation involving energy and agriculture in connection with the war in Ukraine.
