Kitchener man charged after livestream allegedly threatened Jewish community
A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with 'uttering threats to cause death - hate motivated.'
A 33-year-old Kitchener man has been arrested after police say an online livestream contained death threats and antisemitic comments targeting members of the Jewish community.
Waterloo Regional Police were alerted Saturday to the video posted online and launched an investigation into what they are describing as a hate-motivated incident.
Police subsequently executed a search warrant at a residence in Kitchener and arrested a suspect.
“As a result of the investigation, officers completed a warrant at a residence in Kitchener and arrested the suspect,” police said in a statement.
The 33-year-old has been charged with uttering threats to cause death - hate motivated.
Police have not publicly identified the accused or disclosed further details about the alleged threats, including which platform hosted the livestream, how widely it was viewed or whether specific individuals or institutions within the Jewish community were named.
The charge has not been proven in court. The accused has been held over for bail.
