Governments from across Canada and at different levels, continue their war on vaping. 

Ontario was the first to change the rules by treating vaping exactly as it does tobacco cigarette smoking under the “Making Healthier Choices Act”, prohibiting vaping in public places, putting age restrictions in place and regulating the sale of flavoured vaping liquids.

Regina is the latest city jumping on board to treat vaping exactly the same as cigarette smoke, just like Ontario does.

The Mayor and four councillors in that city have filed a joint motion to gather research and feedback on smoking and vaping in public places and they’ll come to a decision in April.

This follows similar bylaws passed in Saskatoon which prohibit both vaping and smoking in spaces owned by the city.
But vaping is not the same as smoking and these government bodies need to get it right. In fact, vaping provides an alternative to smoking tobacco that has helped millions of people quit cigarettes.

From that perspective, these government rules are actually deterring people from accessing a healthier alternative to smoking and stopping them from taking the harm prevention path in the form of vaping.
