Today at the annual meeting of the top Communist lawmakers in Beijing, the mainland government moved forward in bypassing the Hong Kong government and formally criminalizing political dissent.

This brings to a close the “One Country, Two Systems” administration that has governed the former British colony for nearly 23 years.

Hong Kong, in other words, is dying today.

The coastal city has been in a state of civil unrest for over a year now, with largely young people taking to the streets to protest the encroaching Chinese communist authority over the supposedly “Special Administrative Region.”

According to a Chinese official, the National People’s Congress will utilize “constitutional power” to subvert the Hong Kong government and implement new sweeping national security laws.

Upon hearing the news, Donald Trump said to White House reporters that America would react “very strongly” to action of this nature on the part of Beijing.

This comes days after a pro-Beijing politician in Hong Kong forcibly took the chair of the Legislative House Committee while surrounded by a dozen security guards.
