- VICTORY for Trinity Western against Nova Scotia Barristers Society — and anti-Christian prejudice

Help fight for freedom of religion for Canadian students!
Freedom of religion is a fundamental freedom in the Canadian Charter of Rights. We demand that those law societies that have succumbed to the ugly campaign of religious discrimination immediately rescind their bigoted rulings, and that other Canadian law societies welcome the TWU law students in the spirit of Canadian tolerance, pluralism and the freedom of religion guaranteed in our Constitution.
A big win for Trinity Western University today as the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal has dismissed an appeal from the Nova Scotia Barristers Society, who were trying to prevent graduates of the Christian university from practicing law in the province.
We’ve been covering this story from day one, but here’s a quick backgrounder:
Trinity Western University asks that all their students sign a community covenant that forbids all sex out of marriage between a man and woman.
That’s the part the media loves to tell us about, but the covenant also asks students to abstain from gossip, obscene language, prejudice, harassment, lying, cheating, stealing, pornography, and drunkenness.
What exactly is so bad about those other aspects?
I am not a religious person, but who am I or anyone else to tell Christians they cannot practice law because of their personal beliefs, and because they attended a university for a few years and agreed not to have sex out of marriage?
Today’s ruling comes on the heels of a top Ontario court ruling last month. There, judges determined that while the university’s religious freedom had been infringed upon, the institution itself discriminated against LGBTQ.
Trinity Western has indicated they are willing to take this to the Supreme Court of Canada to ensure the religious freedom of their law school is upheld.
Here at The Rebel we will keep fighting for Trinity Western’s rights, and we’ll keep giving you updates. You can go to TheRealBigots.com to find out more and donate to help cover their legal costs.
