Tamara Lich remains barred from international travel after a judge rejected her request to vary her bail conditons, renewing questions about why Canada's justice system treats peaceful protesters more harshly than violent criminals.

On Friday's Rebel Roundtable livestream, David Menzies and Tamara Lich were joined by political commentator Jasmin Laine to break down the decision. 

David directed special frustration toward a Toronto radio host who dismissed Lich's work with Rebel News as "not a real job" and accused the outlet of running a fundraising scheme off her case. He went on to draw a comparison to Omar Khadr, the homegrown Al-Qaeda terrorist who killed a U.S. serviceman and yet received a $10.5-million settlement from Ottawa for "hurt feelings."

"I find it repulsive that Tamara Lich, a grandmother out West that conducted a peaceful demonstration… is considered public enemy number one," David said.

Tamara said the judge's decision came as no surprise given how she behaved during two earlier hearings, calling the outcome "a draw" rather than a win or a loss. She has 18 days left of house arrest before moving into a curfew, with her sentence set to end in January.

However, Chris Barber, her co-accused, has been freely crossing into the United States for work throughout the case. Yet when Lich's lawyer raised Barber's travel history during the hearing, the judge dismissed it, saying there was no evidence before her, even though the judge herself wrote the allowance into the order.

"We don't have a justice system in Canada anymore. There is no justice. It's a legal system," Tamara said.

Tamara has already appealed her conviction, Barber has appealed both his conviction and sentence, and the Crown is separately appealing their acquittal on other charges.

She pointed to a similar case involving activist Chris King, whose acquittal on an intimidation charge was overturned by an appellate court without a new hearing or fresh evidence, as a sign of where her own case is likely headed.

"I'm absolutely certain that's going to happen in our case, and I'm sure this is going to end up in the Supreme Court eventually," Tamara said.

Tamara, for her part, said she intends to simply wait out the remainder of her sentence. "We just got to ride it out and wait till it's all over," she said, adding that she expects to regain some daytime freedom once her house arrest ends and her curfew period begins in January.
