Eleven days after Rebel News sued Elections Alberta over Forever Canadian's undisclosed finances, Thomas Lukaszuk announced his campaign would start reporting them — and the timeline tells the story.

On September 10, Rebel News filed a lawsuit against Elections Alberta. At that point, the agency's register still listed Forever Canadian's contributions at $0.00, marking fifteen consecutive weeks with nothing reported.

Then, on September 21, Thomas Lukaszuk held a press conference at Forever Canadian's Calgary office. He declared that "as of this moment" the campaign would be "entering the arena of a third-party advertiser." According to the Western Standard, the group's finances "will have to be made publicly available under Elections Alberta rules."

Consider what happened between September 10 and 21: no new legislation, no Elections Alberta decision (its own lawyers acknowledge this), and no judicial ruling. The only new development was our lawsuit. We'll accept both the credit and the legal costs.

To give Mr. Lukaszuk his due, compliance going forward is correct — a point we made on July 24 in a 241-page filing. But the headlines need correcting: Forever Canadian isn't newly "registering." It has been registered since June 8, subject to Alberta-only donors, a $5,000 per-donor limit, a $607,000 spending cap, and weekly contribution reports. The real news is Mr. Lukaszuk conceding this is a campaign whose funding must be disclosed.

Admitting it now doesn't erase the past. Who funded fifteen weeks of the Unity Bus, two offices, thousands of lawn signs, and a Jann Arden concert? In May, Mr. Lukaszuk told supporters on X, "Yes, anyone in Canada can donate." His website previously claimed "no limits on donation amounts." Let Alberta Decide, which lodged its complaint three days before ours, noted on September 21 that campaigning openly from now on "does not answer what happened between May and today." Precisely — which is why our lawsuit proceeds.
