“Build that mine!” Calgary Teck Mine supporters outnumber Extinction Rebellion

Protesters and supporters gathered outside of Teck Resources office in Calgary on Wednesday to voice either their support and disdain for the major project. Teck’s Frontier Project is expected to employ several thousand Albertans and generate approximately $70 billion in government revenue over the project’s lifetime.

Calgarians in support of the mine outnumbered the Extinction Rebellion protesters by 3:1. When the downtown core went on lunch break, that ratio almost doubled.

The project is currently under review by Justin Trudeau’s cabinet, and many rally goers held little hope that Trudeau’s interest in supporting Alberta’s economy has changed since the election.
