The FBI is allegedly investigating 175 scientists at the National Institute of Health (NIH) over concerns about their receiving funding from China.

According to a slideshow uncovered from a June 12 virtually-held NIH meeting by their working group on foreign influence on research integrity, the NIH has been exploring concerns about a Chinese talent-scouting program that has seen US taxpayer-funded research swept to China.

The Foreign Thousand Talents Plan is listed in three of the slides, one of which includes a quote from a Senate staff report on “Threats to the US Research Enterprise.”

The Thousand Talents Plan is described as headhunting American scientists and having them “sign legally binding contracts with Chinese institutions.” It goes on to state that “the contracts can incentivize members to lie on [US] grant applications, set up ‘shadow labs’ in China ... and, in some cases, transfer U.S. scientists’ hard-earned intellectual capital.”

The meeting’s slideshow includes a breakdown of “scientists of possible concern,” with 399 NIH scientists listed.

The breakdown goes even further into detail for the 189 scientists of high concern the NIH has contacted the operating institution of, going so far as to break down their age and race – 82 per cent being “Asian” and 93 per cent having received funding from China.

Dramatic actions have already been unfolding beneath the surface. According to the slides, 54 of the 189 scientists specifically targeted by the NIH for undisclosed Chinese funding have been terminated or resigned, with 77 having been removed from the NIH system.

The National Institute of Health is the primary biomedical research body for the US Government and has been spearheading information dissemination for the COVID-19 pandemic.
