Are automotive shows still... relevant?

At the 2020 Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto, a few significant automakers were noticeably AWOL this time around — namely, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.

As well, auto shows the world over these days are far less glitzy and glamorous than the auto exhibitions of yesteryear.

So what gives? Is social media replacing auto shows as the preferred go-to place when it comes to consumers getting information about the world of wheels?
