Nurses told to denounce 'white, European' medicine? True North journalist joins Ezra Levant

True North's Melanie Bennet joins The Ezra Levant Show to discuss her exclusive report which reveals how radical left-wing ideologies are infecting ethics guidelines for Canadian nurses.

Denouncing the “white, European-centric” foundations of modern medicine is apparently a relevant requirement for health-care professionals in Canada — at least according to the Code of Ethics for nurses published by the Canadian Nurses Association, as reported by True North journalist Melanie Bennet and published by Juno News.

“Nurses are now required to acknowledge ‘the historical and continuous impact that White, European-centric models of nursing and health have on the perpetuation of anti-Indigenous racism, anti- Black racism, and other types of racism,’” reads the exclusive story.

Melanie joined The Ezra Levant Show to provide more details about the absurd expectation being placed on Canada's nurses.

“When I read (the Code of Ethics), I was quite surprised,” the journalist said. “What I wanted to know is if this activist element was new for 2025 or whether it was always there, just a new iteration of this progressive leftist language, and I was advised that no, it's pretty new.”

The nursing association takes guidance from the government's approach to Truth and Reconciliation, Melanie said, and, as part of its guidance, touches on values.

“One of those sections is called ‘promoting social justice’ and another whole section is about Indigenous ways of knowing,” she said, highlighting two pillars of left-wing political beliefs being foisted into the health-care document.

Not only that, but the nursing body is advocates to incorporate “Indigenous knowledge into the clinical care that you would receive from a nurse — that would be their ethical duty to do that — and also to integrate it into research.”

While the guidelines leave room for nurses who are conscientious objectors to Canada's controversial Medical Assistance in Dying program, “it doesn't seem that there's any kind of similar process for much of the other activist framings in this document,” Melanie explained of topics like Indigenous ways of knowing, microaggressions or critical race theory.

Those topics are seen “as a moral duty and you must carry on doing that anyway to be a nurse.”

Wokeism has infested nearly everything now. I was a member of a certain scientific/technical organization for over 40 years. I finally let my membership lapse because it had become insufferably woke and politically correct, and it didn’t help that nearly all of the editorials of its main publication were little more than incoherent anti-Trump screeds, even after he was out of office.

Now I hear that the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer is being “revised” to make it more “relevant”. Apparently, what Rudyard Kipling originally wrote isn’t regarded as good enough any more.

I want white European medicine. It’s saved so many people who normally would have died. Let the ones wanting indigenous ways of knowing choose that for their next cancer treatment or heart attack.
