On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Carson Binda from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation discussed British Columbia Premier David Eby's upcoming provincial sales tax expansion, calling it a costly blow to ordinary residents.

Binda said that on October 1, Eby's government will expand the PST to cover a wide range of consumer goods and professional services, including cable television, landline telephones, knitting supplies, engineering, architecture, accounting and security services.

He noted the expansion is expected to cost British Columbians $1.5 billion over the next three years, with small businesses likely passing added costs on to consumers.

Binda pointed to security services in particular, noting that charities and community organizations in Vancouver have had to hire private security due to worsening street conditions, and now face higher costs because of the tax change.

He cited a Leger poll showing only 15 per cent of British Columbians support the tax hike, while 66 per cent want it cancelled outright. Among decided respondents, that opposition rises to 82 per cent, holding steady across regions, genders and income levels.

According to the poll, seniors and families with children are among the groups most opposed to the hike, a trend Binda linked to affordability pressures many households are already facing.

Binda also highlighted landline telephones as an example of the tax's uneven impact, suggesting the change disproportionately affects older British Columbians who still rely on the service.
