On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Freedom Convoy organizer Tamara Lich joined Ezra via Zoom hours after an Ottawa judge ruled on her request to vary the conditions of her house arrest.

Tamara had asked Justice Heather Perkins-McVey, who presided over the longest mischief trial in Canadian history, for permission to travel to the United States for work with Rebel News, including invitations from Glenn Beck and other American programs. Ontario's Crown sent three prosecutors to the hearing and sought tighter restrictions instead.

After stretching a routine matter across three months of hearings, the judge left Tamara's conditions unchanged but said she may apply for international trips on a case-by-case basis. Tamara called the result "a draw."

She noted that her co-accused, Chris Barber, drives into the U.S. weekly as a long-haul trucker under conditions the same judge wrote. Tamara added that violent offenders and drug traffickers routinely receive lighter sentences than the 18 months of house arrest she and Barber are serving.

Tamara's trial opened in Ottawa on Sept. 5, 2023, and ran 42 days before she was found guilty of mischief in April 2025 — more than three years after her arrest. She was acquitted of intimidation, obstructing police and other counts. On Oct. 7, 2025, Perkins-McVey imposed an 18-month conditional sentence that included house arrest, a curfew and 100 hours of community service, after the Crown had asked for seven years in prison.

Tamara, represented by Lawrence Greenspon, is appealing her conviction to the Ontario Court of Appeal, arguing the verdict was unreasonable and seeking either an acquittal or a new trial. The Crown is appealing separately, hoping to reinstate the intimidation charge and secure a harsher sentence, with its written arguments due Dec. 30, 2026, and a hearing expected in Toronto in spring 2027.
