Rebel News reporter Alexa Lavoie is on the ground in Thetford, England, where another major protest is expected amid growing tensions over the government’s asylum accommodation plans.

Thetford has become one of the latest flashpoints in Britain’s ongoing asylum crisis, with asylum seekers being moved into houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs) in residential neighbourhoods. Residents say they received little information about the arrangements.

Earlier this month, a list of addresses believed to be housing asylum seekers circulated online. One property was reportedly located near a primary school and a nursery, prompting renewed concerns among residents.

Protests were held in Thetford for three consecutive nights, with crowds of up to 200 people gathering. Police were deployed, properties were damaged and several people were arrested. The local Labour MP has also criticized the Home Office over what he described as a lack of engagement with residents and elected officials.

The concerns extend beyond Thetford. Nearby, the former RAF Barnham site is being considered by the Home Office as accommodation for up to 1,250 asylum seekers, reportedly all single adult men. Barnham has a population of roughly 600 people, meaning the proposed accommodation could house more than twice the village’s population.

Residents have raised questions about how the plans could affect their community, while the broader asylum system continues to face scrutiny over costs, accommodation and public safety.
